In 1947, the Year of the Boar, Sixth Cousin leaves China with her parents for a new beginning in America. Proud of the American name that she chose for herself, Shirley Temple Wong is optimistic that her new home will be the land of many opportunities. Though she meets challenges along the way, Shirley slowly finds her place in this new life. And thanks in part to her new love of the Brooklyn Dodgers (especially her hero Jackie Robinson) she begins to feel at home and realizes that she is both Chinese and American inside. Adapted from the award-wining novel by Bette Bao Lord, this heartfelt story is told through humor, language, and a rich multi-media staging while celebrating the bravery and sacrifice of those who bring new perspectives to our country.
